What you can claim for

If you have suffered a personal injury and you feel it is someone else's fault it is your legal right to make a claim for compensation.

Types of compensation

Compensation can be awarded for many different things.

As well as physical pain and suffering, you can be awarded compensation for psychological injury and loss of income - both now and in the future.

The amount of compensation awarded will be determined by all your losses and related outgoings between the injury occurring and the compensation award and can also take account of future losses, financial losses and losses of 'amenity', that is where you are no longer able to do something that you could before the injury.

Accident claims

Accidents can happen anywhere and generally when you least expect them. They can happen on the road, at the shops, in public spaces and at work.  Where the accident is a result of someone else doing something wrong, or not taking the care that we might reasonably expect them to take, it may be possible for you to claim compensation for your personal injury.

Contrary to what many people think, it is also possible to claim compensation for accidents which have happened in your own home - for instance if it has been caused by a faulty product, by sub-standard workmanship, by poor construction or poor property condition (where the property is rented).

The amount of compensation awarded depends on the injuries suffered (both physical and psychological) and financial losses suffered as a result of the accident.

More details of different types of accident are given within this section - accessible from the menu on the left hand side.
